Biodiversity Awareness Project

The Biodiversity project is a partnership with the Natural History Museum of Jamaica (NHMJ) and the Institute of Jamaica (IOJ). The project is sponsored by Trans Jamaican Highway and administered by JIO, it continues to show steady progress.  The primary aim of the project is to increase awareness of biodiversity and related-issues in the vicinity of Phase IB of the Highway 2000 Project (Sandy Bay to May Pen).   The project initially targets the Chandler’s Pen Primary & Junior High School and involves the establishment of a Biodiversity Centre on the school compound.  The Centre is the focal point of a programme of biodiversity-related activities conducted by personnel from the Institute of Jamaica with an Environmental club as a spin-off. This is facilitated by the school.
