Holiday Season Road Safety Tips

It’s that time of year again when many persons get busy with last minute shopping, head out of town, and begin enjoying the season’s festivities.

In all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it is important to remember to take extra care when using the nation’s roads and highways. Here are a few reminders of some safety tips to practice while using Highway 2000 East-West:

  • Always observe and obey the posted speed limit.
  • Ensure you and your passengers are wearing your seatbelts properly.
  • Never drive intoxicated. If you plan to drink, ensure you have a designated driver who remains sober.
  • Avoid cellphone use and other distractions while driving. Many accidents result from distracted driving.
  • Driving while tired is another common cause of accidents. Ensure you are well rested before driving.
  • Reduce your speed and proceed safely as you approach any Toll Plaza.
  • Check the pressure and road-worthiness of your tyres before driving on the highway.
  • As tempting as it may be, DO NOT walk nor cycle on the Toll Road. These practices are prohibited by law for your own safety.
  • To check and enhance the safeness and reliability of your vehicle, ensure it is routinely serviced by a competent mechanic.
  • In the event of a disruption on the Highway (i.e. smoke or an accident) please pay attention to any lane closures and obey the Emergency Personnel and Patrol Officers at the location.
  • Memorize the Highway 2000 East-West Emergency Toll Free Number 888-429-5632 so you can dial it quickly if experiencing an emergency.

Take good care on the roads and highways, and have a very pleasant holiday season!
